Clinical Services and Supports

Jewish for Good offers a comprehensive range of services that help people meet life’s challenges. Guided by the Jewish values of communal responsibility and social justice, we are passionate about our commitment to serving all members of the community, regardless of race, religious affiliation, identity, age, or ability. We deliver high-quality professional social services for adults and families through all stages of life and strive to improve quality of life by providing affordable services and educational workshops that help foster the Jewish tradition of empowering people to care for themselves and each other. Thanks to our donors and volunteers, the cost of all of our services are financially accessible. Those in need will not be turned away for lack of funds.

Care Partner Support Group

Care Partner Support.jpg

Our peer-led Care Partner Support Group provides an opportunity for care partners and family members to share resources and discuss emotions in a confidential setting. A family care partner is someone who provides unpaid care for another person. This person could be a spouse, parent, child, other relative, or friend. Our Care Partner Support Group provides an opportunity for care partners and family members of loved ones who are experiencing memory and thinking issues to share resources.

The group values respect and responds with empathy and non-judgmental feedback in a confidential setting. The group meets on the 4th Wednesday of every month from 12:30-2pm.

Case Management

We offer a variety of case management services to meet your needs. Case Management is a personalized service that creates a well-developed care plan, based on assessments. That plan is developed in consultation with you and reflects your choices and preferences for service. The goal is to ensure that you are involved in all aspects of the planning, service arrangements, and delivery.

Services:

  • Brief consultation (up to 30 minutes): This is a phone call or meeting to get quick answers to questions and community resource lists. (Free)

  • Case management in-depth consultation: This is a meeting to explore specific concerns, options, and available resources. Support, education, and guidance in dealing with a client’s concerns are provided. The consultation is also available by phone for families who reside out of town. ($50)

  • Full case management assessment (up to four hours): This is a home visit to fully assess a person’s current situation, including physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and financial needs, as well as available supports, the safety of the living environment, and quality of life. Options are explored and a plan with recommendations and referrals to community resources is developed to address the client’s needs and concerns. ($200)

  • Follow-up case management services (up to one hour): Follow-up case management services are only available to clients who have already received a full case management assessment. This is suggested if a client’s situation and needs have changed, requiring a reassessment of needs and changes to the previously developed plan. In some instances, follow-ups may be longer and incur additional charges if the client needs additional help exploring their options and added guidance, support, and education to make decisions. ($50)

Jewish for Good provides these services on a sliding scale fee to those who qualify. The fee is based on gross annual income and the size of the household. Client fees may be re-evaluated periodically to reflect changing circumstances.

Emergency Financial Assistance

Our Emergency Financial Assistance Program provides families assistance for necessities such as housing, utilities, health care, and food in times of crisis when they are unable to provide for themselves. Emergency Financial Assistance may be provided when there are medical issues, a loss of income, or a death in the family; however, it is not intended to provide full financial support for any individual on a long-term basis. In cases of ongoing need, our staff will help the individual or family to find other resources. Anyone receiving financial assistance will need to meet with one of our clinical social workers for an initial interview and undergo a financial assessment. All applicants will be asked to provide documentation related to their income and their expenses.

Emergency Financial Assistance is considered on a quarterly basis on the following dates January 3rd, April 1st, July 1st, October 1st. To be considered for assistance, you will need to complete THIS FORM between 7am and noon on those dates. People will be selected at random after 12pm.  If you are selected, you will be contacted within three business days from the first of the quarter to schedule a meeting for a financial assessment.

YOU MUST SUBMIT THIS REQUEST EVERY TIME YOU ARE REQUESTING ASSISTANCE. If you need assistance filling out this form, please email or call Shoshana Funk at Sfunk@jewishforgood.org or at 919-354-4922. Funds are limited, therefore, we encourage you to try other agencies. Many can be found at DCIA.org.

Friendly Visitors and Callers

Volunteer to reach out via phone or visit in person. Oftentimes, a volunteer’s friendly voice, check-in, and willingness to chat is the only connection these folks have to our community. This opportunity is a lovely, remote way to make a big impact on someone’s life.

Grief Supports and Resources

Jewish mourning customs reflect the natural course of grief and recovery following the death of a loved one. We are committed to assisting those in need navigating this challenging time.

Growing thru Grief

We partner with a local grief coalition to provide a weekly support group.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, psychotherapy modality that uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, sound, etc) to help people heal from emotional distress, stuck patterns, and/or symptoms that can result from disturbing life events.  Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019). Our Director of Helping, Jenny Schwartz, has been trained in this technique and has seen many positive results in her clients.
